Use traditional glazing methods to glaze large roof domes of the 'Grand Conservatory'.
We were approached by Alton Towers, a prestigious and well-known theme park in Staffordshire, to join a team in restoring the 'Grand Conservatory' within the garden area of the resort. This grade II* listed building was built in 1820 and originally fitted with over 11,000 separate panes of glass!
The large domes on the roof of the conservatory are constructed from smaller panes of glass which overlap in a traditional method of glazing. Each of these pieces were cut and fitted on site to give this truly amazing effect. The images below show how the domes look when looking up from the interior of this remarkable building.
